Frequently asked questions.
Why are there so many political signs posted around town?
Because there is a battle raging between the Kootenai County Republican Central Committee (KCRCC), comprised of mostly grassroots conservatives; and the NIR (North Idaho Republican organization), mostly establishment liberals & moderates.
What is the battle about?
The battle is for the control of the Republican Central Committee by way of elected PCs (precinct committeemen). The future of the IDGOP hangs in the balance.
What is a precinct committeeman?
A PC is an elected precinct representative that serves his or her neighborhood and who is part of the KCRCC.
What does a PC do?
A PC is responsible for informing the people living in their precinct about candidates, political events, and ballot issues.
What’s the big deal?
It’s a big deal because the PCs vote on which delegates to send to the state party convention where leadership is elected, and the party rules and platform are reviewed and updated.
Think – who will lead the Party, what rules will be followed, and where will the money be spent?
Why now?
Since many of the establishment Republicans were not elected in 2022, they want their power back. The way to do that has been to use the press and social media to misrepresent and disparage the KCRCC, their evaluation process, and incumbent PCs.
How will they do that?
A group called the “Gem State Conservatives” has reportedly raised $2 million to run candidates in many of the 976 precinct committeemen races across the state. In Kootenai county, Democrats are endorsing the NIR supported candidates. Check your Democrat neighbor’s yard; whose sign is posted?
Who should I vote for?
Vote for the KCRCC candidates that value faith, family, and freedom and desire to uphold:
A community based on a Christian worldview.
The traditional family and protection of the innocent.
Individual rights and rejection of government mandates.
A closed primary and maintain one-person-one-vote.
Who should I not support?
Don't vote for the NIR recommended candidates that support:
Pride in the Park and drag shows.
Sexually explicit materials in the children's section of the library.
Candidates who were registered as Democrats.
An open primary and change to ranked-choice voting.
Why is the Tuesday, May 21st primary election so important?
Because your vote will determine if Idaho will stay RED.
